Dr. Nelson Preschel is among the few South Florida eye surgeons who hold advanced fellowship training in multiple disciplines, including cornea surgery, refractive surgery, anterior segment surgery and is a talented glaucoma treatment specialist. His impressive educational background and outstanding surgical and clinical skills allow him to develop a customized vision solution for each patient.
Dr. Preschel is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a prestigious title that requires a rigorous re-certification process every ten years and attests to his commitment to continuing education and excellence in his ophthalmic practice. He is highly respected in his field and has authored several research articles and presentations on the topics of cornea surgery, refractive surgery and glaucoma treatment
Dr. Preschel completed his medical degree at the Central University of Venezuela and was awarded an educational grant from Venezuela’s Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Foundation, which allowed him to attend a post-graduate training program in the United States. He served his internal medicine internship at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City and was awarded a research fellowship in ophthalmic pathology. Dr. Preschel completed his eye surgery residency at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and a fellowship in Cornea, Refractive Surgery and Glaucoma at Minnesota Eye Consultants, where he studied under the mentorship of internationally renowned eye surgeons. Following the training in America, he returned to his native country to work as an attending eye surgeon for the Venezuelan Society for the Advancement of Ophthalmology, where he was involved in advancing the surgical proficiency of post-graduate residents and fellow ophthalmologists.
Dr. Preschel is fluent in Spanish and English, which allows him to serve the needs of both national and international patients, who often travel to receive treatment from him due to his unique ability to utilize a multidisciplinary and multicultural approach to eye care. Dr. Preschel and his family are proud to be part of the Southern Florida community.
